Life Coaching and S.H.A.P.E. go together.
Perhaps no other tool is as useful and helpful for you as a Life Coach as a good understanding of the individualized SHAPE teaching tool. When the Christian Life Coach understands the S.H.A.P.E. acrostic and is able to lead his or her client through it, it can encourage the heart, open the eyes of personal understanding and illumine the path on future endeavors.
In the same way a potter shapes a vessel God
personally shapes and molds His people (Romans 9:20-21). In fact, David acknowledged that God was
actively forming his body and mind even before he was born,
13 For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother’s womb.
14 I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well. Psalm 139:13-14 (NASB)
The best indicator of what a person is destined to
accomplish or what a person’s best future may be is their individual
SHAPE. Consider for a moment how an
architect designs a building. The
architect takes into account the purpose of the building, who will be in the
building, how many people will be in the building, how many floors will it
have, etc. The foundation is designed to
support the building. Once the
foundation is laid it then determines the ultimate shape of the building. The building will not be able to exceed its
foundation. But the foundation can
provide the building’s purpose and the potential.
The divine architect of your life, God, has a plan
for your life. He designed you to do
great things and His foundation provides both your purpose and incredible
potential. For this reason, it is extremely
important for a person to be armed with this information as early in life as
“You Are Wonderfully and Uniquely Gifted to Succeed in Life!”
Your foundation has a SHAPE. (CLASS 301 by Rick Warren. These concepts have been around forever, but I am thankful to Dr. Rick Warren for the SHAPE acrostic. I am not certain if it was original with him, however, that is where I first heard it and where it began to have a huge impact in my life. Kelly Carr). The acrostic S.H.A.P.E. stands for 5 essential elements that determine human function and capability.
During our 14 week online course to become a certified Christian Life Coach, a great deal of time is devoted to helping our students learn about SHAPE. It not only helps them become stronger people, but it provides them with an invaluable tool.
The Faith Based Life Coach has several tools he or she can use but the SHAPE acrostic provides a good starting point for your clients that is easy for you to explain and for them to grasp quickly. A person’s Spiritual Gifts, Heart, Abilities, Personality Profile, and Experiences all figure into the equation. This profile is a description of the total person. The SHAPE profile assumes there is a Divine Architect Who has a plan for our lives and a Divine Power that is actively at work in our lives.
Fortunately, a Christian Life Coach has several Faith Based assessments he or she can choose from when helping the client discover their SHAPE. There are assessments to help a person discover their Spiritual Gifts, their Personality type, and their Natural Abilities. It would be a good idea to learn about a few of these assessments you trust, acquire whatever training you need to administer them, and begin using them to the benefit of your clients.
Let me encourage you to get better acquainted with this incredible tool. Download the free booklet, “Discover Your SHAPE: and Uncover Your Purpose in Life.” It is a great starting place. It will help you understand it better and understand better how to use it. If you have never been through it before, it will even help you understand yourself better.
