For Erica Garcia, coaching was a life-changing experience. Yet she discovered it almost by chance.
Erica was attending a conference for the Sigma Gamma Rho sorority where an ICF Credentialed Coach (also a Sigma Gamma Rho alum) was speaking. As part of the session, the coach offered the first 10 women who emailed her the opportunity to be coached.
Erica took a chance and began working with ICF Credentialed Coach Cheryl Procter-Rogers, PCC. Cheryl is an executive coach, career coach and life coach based out of the Chicago area.
Erica had felt her entire life like she was waiting for a superhero, someone to save her from her problems and help her achieve her goals.
Because of #coaching, Erica was able to move past her perceived limitations to create the life she wanted for herself.
So, you have thought about your life, where you are right now and where you would like to be. Perhaps, there is something that needs some adjustment, maybe even some improvement. Would you like to develop your character? No doubt, setting and working towards a goal will play a part in your success.
Spend time in nature. The world is driven by technology, and it’s easy to spend a lot of time interacting with people and machines. Spending time in nature is a great way to unwind and to reconnect with yourself. Feel the breeze, see the sky and listen to the birds. You’ll love it.
There is much truth in the adage, “As you help others, you help yourself.” When life seems bleakest, it can be useful to know that there are always people who need what you can offer. Volunteering yourself and your skills, time and compassion, is a powerful tool to pull you out of your own funk and get you thinking about other people and their problems. It is remarkable “and often life-changing” to realize how much help you will get yourself by changing your focus to someone else in need.
Create a personal development plan to get the most out of your time and energy commitment. Attempting personal development without a detailed plan in place with your goals and activities almost always guarantees a lack of success because it is difficult to remain focused on a few areas of development without a structured plan.
One way you can instantly boost your mood or views on a troubling/stressful situation you may find yourself dealing with is to take a brisk walk. It can be around your block or further if you so choose. Exercise is an important part of keeping your mind and body active, which will, in turn, assist with your other personal developmental goals and aspirations.
Look the part! Clothing choices are an important part of your image. If you volunteer to assist at your child’s school event, dress in a way that instills confidence and shows school spirit. On the other hand, if you are in charge of greeting attendees at an important work conference, then you should likely dress more professionally.
Relationships are essential in living a healthy life, and they are the bonds that weave our emotions and satisfy our hearts. Family relationships, friendships, and a significant other are all vital parts of a person’s well-being.
In all aspects of the self-help process, it is extremely important not to get too discouraged with yourself. Your road to improvement is a marathon, not a short-distance race. You would do well to remind yourself of this fact every once in a while. Understand that there are going to be bumps along the road.
Improve your self-esteem by adopting a realistic body image. Models, actors and actresses make their living by looking good and devote all their time as well as their money to acquire an unrealistic “look.” What they cannot accomplish for themselves is obtained through professional makeup, airbrush, and cosmetic surgery. Don’t compare yourself to a false image. Remember, you are a real person!
Build strong and healthy relationships with good people. The people that you share your life with are going to help you in your journey to a happy life. If you are around negative people, it is not going to help you change your ways and find the life that you want to live.
Learn to trust in yourself. If you can find a way to believe in yourself, you are sure to find more success in your life. If you know and believe in the potential that you have to succeed in life, you will find it easier to meet the goals that you have set for yourself.
Now, you have some suggestions in mind — apply the advice that best suits your own circumstances. Give it some time! Set a goal and work towards it! Perhaps, the adjustment or improvement, you would like to make has been a part of your character for a long time. Be reasonable. Work hard to grow as a person!
